Dec 16, 2010 by Charles Gubert

Citigroup has expanded its Asian prime brokerage team with a series of hires, according to Bloomberg News.

Thomas Treadwell was named business manager for derivatives clearing in Hong Kong and Martin Visairis becomes head of capital introduction for Asia-Pacific.

Treadwell was previously head of prime services in Singapore at Barclays. Visairas joined from Old Mutual Asset Managers and has also worked as head of capital introduction in Asia at Merrill Lynch.

The two are among 15 new hires by Citi Prime Finance and there are plans to add another 10 next year.

Treadwill will help bring US and European derivatives to the company’s Asian clients and will build a clearing relationship with the region’s exchanges.

This comes as Hong Kong plans to create a central registry and clearing house for over the counter derivatives trading by 2012.
